Information

Current unmet healthcare needs are centered on effective prevention strategies and personalized medicine. Our ambition is to facilitate a dialogue between traditional healers and biomedical healthcare professionals regarding the prevention and management of chronic diseases, with the aim of enhancing health outcomes and quality of life.

Our mission

Leiden Academy of Chinese Medicine (LACM) is a continuing education and professional training institution dedicated to building bridges between East and West, particularly between China and Europe and increasingly the wider world, in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

Our mission is to provide high-quality, standardized continuing education and training programs for TCM and acupuncture practitioners, physicians, and students in the Netherlands, neighbouring countries, across Europe, and around the world. We aim to maintain and further enhance professional standards, support compliance with relevant healthcare regulations, and foster a professional community and platform for the exchange of knowledge and expertise in Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture. Our target audience includes licensed TCM and acupuncture practitioners in the Netherlands, TCM practitioners throughout Europe and worldwide, students currently pursuing TCM education, as well as physicians and medical students trained in conventional medicine.

Customarily, practitioners and physicians are highly trained within their respective healthcare systems, with limited opportunities for cross-disciplinary exchange. Our mission is to bridge the gap between these professional worlds by facilitating the exchange of knowledge, research, and clinical experience. Through this integrative approach, we seek to promote mutual understanding and collaboration, enabling patients to benefit from a broader range of evidence-informed treatment options that can be tailored to their individual needs and health conditions. The combination of Western medicine and Eastern medicine offers a comprehensive approach to personalized and preventive healthcare, drawing on the strengths of both medical systems to optimize patient outcomes.

About us

LACM Company

LACM is part of SU BioMedicine, a spin-off company of the Dutch Organization for Applied Scientific Research (TNO). The growing need to share the knowledge and expertise developed over more than 20 years in the fields of systems medicine, quality control, international standards for herbal and Chinese medicine, and the registration and commercialization of herbal products led to the establishment of the Leiden Academy of Chinese Medicine (LACM).

In addition to offering local continuing education programs, LACM has established strategic and long-term partnerships with leading Chinese institutions, including the Sichuan Academy of Chinese Medicine Sciences and Zhejiang Chinese Medical University. Through these collaborations, we can provide our students with unique educational opportunities and specialized training programs in China, allowing them to gain first-hand experience and deepen their understanding of Traditional Chinese Medicine in its country of origin.

Both Western and Eastern healthcare systems are built on strong foundations and have made significant contributions to human health. However, each system also has its own limitations and challenges. LACM seeks to promote synergistic collaboration, education, and communication between professionals from both Western and Eastern medical traditions. By fostering mutual understanding and the exchange of knowledge, we aim to contribute to a more integrative, personalized, and preventive approach to healthcare that benefits patients and society.
